I’m moving into the foreground. I’ve painted some of the foreground trees. I tried to give the impression of speckled light showing through the leaves onto the trunks.
The Central Pine Trees
I guess I really need to practice up on my pine trees. Yet again, I got tripped up here.
My initial problem was that I hadn’t built up enough contrast between the trees, which were in the foreground, and the background.

I had even tried to use a kind of silly mist effect that was only around the tree. It looked unpleasant.
So, I would would have to repaint everything. I painted the trees in the background a little lighter than last time to help with the contrast as well as furthering the atmospheric perspective. When it came to the pine trees, this time, I started with a dark base – a mix of Perylene Maroon and Phthalo Green with no white. Then, I’d begin building lighter values on top of that.

And now we’re here:

My Thoughts at This Point
It’s not perfect. I may still have a ways to go, but at least the pine trees contrast the background better.
