A Quiet Riverbend – Self-Critique

I’m taking an examination of my work on my painting of a riverbend, giving my thoughts on what I think I did well and what I could improve.
My painting of the Riverbend comes to an end. Another notch in the belt.
I’ve rendered the rocks and the water.
I’ve more or less finished detailing for things on either side of the river bank.
The pine trees in the center give me a little trouble.
I’m beginning to paint in details. Starting from the background, coming forward, I’m suggesting individual leaves, groups of leaves, using smaller brushes that I did before when I was blocking things in. I’m using brighter colors that I used for the block in in some cases. I’m starting to get rid of the muddy colors… Continue reading Riverbend – Take II (3)
The underpainting is complete, and I’m ready to paint atop it.
I’ve begun “Riverbend” anew. I’m tackling things with gouache paint this time.
I’m now practicing painting grass in gouache.
