Rendering Part 6

Where We Left off

I have rendered most of the face at this point. I had most recently completed the hair.
The Neck and Ear

I block in the last of the skin. That would be the ear and the neck.

Then, as usual, I model. I fill paper tooth valleys with a sharp point, and I shade gradually, building up the darks, blending out into the lights. The hair on the neck I put on top of the shading for the skin.
The Clothes
Now, it’s time to render the clothing.

I block in the clothes, putting in the major shapes of light and dark.

Lastly, I model the clothes.
Again, that’s filling paper tooth with a sharp tip, shading smoothly from dark to light where needed. And yeah, even for the clothes, which won’t be the focal point of the drawing.
Refinement Comes Next
I’ve covered the entire portrait. I’ve rendered the skin, the hair, and now the clothes. We’re not done yet. I have to take assessment and make the editions to the portrait as needed.
That may mean fixing major mistakes, may be something as simple as adjusting some lights and darks in the shading.
But one way or another, we’re in the home stretch for this drawing.
