The two most recent drawings from my imagination.
So, here’s where my skill in being able to draw from my imagination is right now. I believe it’s solid.
I take an abstract form, I mold it like clay in my imagination, draw it out on paper. I pull from my experience in this regard. I remember what I can of all the drawings I’ve done my past, art I’ve seen, things I’ve seen from life or even photos, and I try to make something original.
I want to be able to draw full compositions from my imagination.
I see this mostly in illustrators nowadays. People who make fan art as well.
But I know that a long time ago, all artists were expected to have this skill. That is, they were taught how to do this in art schools.
There was also no distinction between a fine artist and an illustrator.
My experience is that in fine artists aren’t always taught this skill, while illustrators seem to learn it more easily – or maybe they find resources, teachers who teach it more reliably.
I did go to school for fine art. I didn’t take any classes for illustration, however, I’ve seen videos on YouTube to do with illustration skills and maybe I have a few books lying around that teach illustration (how to draw comics, really). I do intend to push my imaginative skills, combining what illustration skills I have, however sparse they seem to be, with my fine art skills, and hopefully, I will be able to find what I want to get out of my artwork.
