Riverbend – Take II (3)

I’m beginning to paint in details. Starting from the background, coming forward, I’m suggesting individual leaves, groups of leaves, using smaller brushes that I did before when I was blocking things in.

I’m using brighter colors that I used for the block in in some cases. I’m starting to get rid of the muddy colors by covering over them.

This is slow work, but I’m willing to see it through.

Afterthoughts

It may be a little too early to make this judgement, but I’m starting to like gouache. I think that I’m getting good results even though I’ve only detailed the background foliage so far. Unlike watercolor, I can push and pull the edges of shapes because of the opaque nature of gouache. This really helps when I’m trying to get certain shapes and designs.
